The Union Haddiema Maghqudin is holding the management at Mater Dei Hospital legally responsible for unprocessed blood at the hospital as a result of lack of identification.
It said in a statement that although it had issues directives to paramedic aides, it allowed them to process blood at the Emergency Department and in wards because it was a responsible union.
The blood was identified with labels which distinguished one test from another.
However, the management recently ordered the labels to no longer be issued and, as a result, tests could not be identified.
Besides being irresponsible, such behaviour also undermined patients’ health.
The union said it was holding whoever took the decision legally responsible for any blood that could not be processed because of this order.
