(Adds comments by spokesman for health secretariat)

The UHM said today that reports have been filed to the Occupational Health and Safety Authority over the presence of rats in the offices of the Medicines Authority.

The UHM in a statement also said it had registered an industrial dispute with the authority after the workers suffered a pay cut when they were told by the union to take precautionary action to protect themselves in view of the infestation.

It said the workers had dead and living rats in their offices. This posed a health risk to them and their families.

However, a spokesman for the secretariat for health said there had been a problem involving a single rat around July and action had been taken immediately, as the union knew. The spokesman denied there had ever been "an infestation of rats" as was being claimed by the union.
