The Unscheduled Bus Service has not discussed the possibility of taking over the bus service if Arriva pulls out, nor has it been asked to do so.

With Arriva and the Government locked in negotiations over new routes, Times of Malta yesterday asked its CEO, Ray Bartolo, whether they had been approached to run the service.

He was categorical in his replies, saying this was absolutely not the case. He said that the scope of their current engagement “is merely to plug the hole left by the suspension of the articulated buses from service”.

Asked whether UBS would be interested in running the service, he said he was not in a position to reply.
