To date, only two water taxis have been licensed, Transport Minister Austin Gatt told Parliament in reply to a question by Ċensu Galea (PN). The two licences are not bound by any particular routes because the water taxis may operate from any Maltese port. Answering another question by Mr Galea, Dr Gatt said the number of vessels licensed to carry passengers in Maltese territorial waters was 230. These included those that could operate from specific landing sites according to the conditions of their Commercial Vessel Certificate. Other categories' operations were limited, such as those at Wied iż-Żurrieq, Dwejra and the boatmen who normally operated in Grand Harbour.
