A man was yesterday charged with assaulting his wife and threatening to kill her after an argument at a wedding reception last Friday turned violent.

Inspector Kevin Farrugia told the court yesterday that 25-year-old Marco Baldacchino got drunk during the reception at the Coastline Hotel and approached his wife after seeing her talking to another man.

Mr Baldacchino was charged with injuring his wife, with whom he has two children, making death threats and damaging property belonging to the hotel. He was denied bail.

In another case, a 25-year-old Somali man was charged with threatening his young pregnant wife with a 30cm breadknife during a domestic argument that broke out while he was cooking.

The man became aggressive towards his wife in the kitchen of a Birkirkara residence for immigrants.

He started shouting at his wife, who is heavily pregnant with twins, and waved a large bread knife in her direction. Eventually care workers at the Qawsalla residence intervened and managed to restrain the man. The cause of the argument is not clear.

Yesterday he was charged with terrorising his wife and assaulting a care worker and a security man who works at the residence. He was denied bail and has also been expelled from the residence.
