A man and a woman were injured this afternoon when they were hit by a car in Mdina Road, Attard.

They were crossing the busy road at around 2.30 p.m., some 50 metres away from a zebra crossing near  the Creations showroom, when they were hit by a Peugeot 407, driven by a 27-year-old woman from Rabat.

The victims, a 75-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman, both from Msida, were rushed to hospital in two ambulances escorted by police motorcyclists.

The police said the man is in danger of dying while the woman suffered serious life-threatening injuries but is not in danger of dying.

The road is currently closed, and a long traffic jam has built up.
