The government is planning to start construction of two water reservoirs this year, one of 40,000 cubic metres (8.8 million gallons) in Mosta Road, Lija, and another of 60,000 cubic metres (13.2 million gallons) in Wied il-Għasel, Burmarrad.

Answering a parliamentary question by Anthony Agius Decelis (PL), Resources Minister George Pullicino said an exercise was currently underway to update the number of water reservoirs to catch rainwater and for which the government is responsible. It is known that there are 115 such reservoirs with a total capacity of around 173,360 million cubic metres (around 38.5 million gallons).

Maintenance and cleaning works were carried out on a number of reservoirs in 2008.
