Two motorcyclists sustained serious injuries in two separate traffic accidents yesterday, the police said.
At 2 a.m., a 32-year-old man from St Julians was injured in St Andrew's Road, Swieqi when the Honda MD 30 motorbike he was riding collided with a VW Polo.
The car was being driven in the same direction by a 25-year-old woman from Siġġiewi. She was unharmed.
An ambulance was soon on the scene and took the man to Mater Dei Hospital. Police sources said the driver actually stood up and got into the ambulance himself. However, about five hours later he was certified to be in critical condition. His condition was later described by the police as stable.
Both vehicles were slightly damaged. The second accident involved a 27-year-old man from Xgħajra, who suffered serious injuries in a collision between the Honda CBR motorbike he was driving and a Ferrari in Orlando Street, Xgħajra at 10.15 a.m. The sports car was being driven in the opposite direction by a 39-year-old man from Marsascala.
The biker was taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening. The Ferrari driver was uninjured.
Police investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
