Finance Minister Tonio Fenech and SMEs minister Jason Azzopardi are in Libya for talks with government ministers.

They are leading a business mission organised by Malta Enterprise and focused particularly on the maritime sector, the government said.

The minister this afternoon had talks with Yousef Al Wehishi, the Libyan Minister of Communications and Transport, Rajab Khalil, Deputy Minister of the Economy, and Chairman of the General Board for Investment,and Mahmoud Al Fteisi, Minister of Industry.

Mr Fenech offered Malta's assistance on capacity building in a number of sectors, which are critical to the economic development of Libya, including in the civil aviation sector while Dr Azzopardi offered Malta's assistance to develop and strengthen Libyan Cooperatives and Businesses.

Represented in the business mission are 24 companies all involved in ports and maritime services. The companies represent the main players in the maritime sector in Malta and they are involved in ship repair, marine engineering and construction, port services and other activity.

The delegation will be visiting the ports of Homs, Tripoli, Benghazi and Misur

The Malta-Libya Technical Committee on Trade and Investment also held its first meeting today. The committee's purpose is to facilitate trade and business relationships between the two countries.
