Two men were this morning charged with trafficking in ecstasy after, on Thursday night, police found over 800 pills in a Qormi confectionary

Terence Cini, 25, and Steve Bazine, 19, both from Qormi pleaded not guilty to all charges and were remanded in police custody.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard how both men were charged with the possession and trafficking of ecstasy and conspiring to deal in the drug.

Mr Bazine was also charged with the possession of cocaine and cannabis resin.

In a statement issued yesterday police explained that drug squad officers had been observing the movements of the men who they believed were trafficking drugs in the area.

On Thursday night, police searched Mr Cini and found that he was carrying 150 ecstasy pills.

Police then searched several areas commonly frequented by the man, including a nearby confectionary. There they found about 850 pills in a plastic bag. Sources said the man had left the confectionary just before he was searched by police.

Police Inspector Victor Aquilina prosecuted.

Lawyer Joseph Giglio, Franco Debono and Gianluca Caruana Curren represented the accused.
