Two men who admitted to theft were this morning jailed for a total of 29 months.

Charlo Cutajar, 46, of Zurrieq admitted to stealing a crane winch on April 27 last year, valued at €700, from Vassallo Builders.

Magistrate Saviour Demicoli took into consideration, that he admitted in an early stage of the proceedings and that he was a relapser. Mr Cutajar cooperated with police and returned the stolen item. However, he had a rather large criminal record. He was jailed for 14 months.

Andrew Formosa, 25, of Ġzira, admitted to trying to steal a stereo from a Kia in December, 2006. He was seen by the owner but managed to run away, only to be caught by the police shortly after.

Magistrate Meli took into consideration that he had also admitted in an early stage of the proceedings and his voluminous criminal record before jailing him for 15 months and fining him €582.34.
