Two men were this afternoon charged with stealing €125 worth of fuel from a truck.

Jeffrey Cassar, 27, of Mosta pleaded guilty and was placed on probation for three years.

Joseph Grech, 48 of Zebbug, also known as iz-Zinanna, was also charged with carrying a gun without a licence, driving without a licence or insurance, driving dangerously and relapsing. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Keith Arnaud told the court the police went to investigate the theft, arrived at the scene and the accused sped off. There was a car chase and the two men were caught in Birkirkara.

In a separate arraignment, Mr Grech was charged with breaching bail conditions. For when the alleged theft took place, he was meant to be at home.

He pleaded guilty to this charge and was jailed for two months.
