Two young Somali men were grievously injured after they were beaten with glass bottles in two separate cases in St Julian's.

The police said the first attack took place at 3.30am in Triq il-Bajja, however, the aggressors had fled the scene by the time the officers turned up on site.

An ambulance took the man, who lives in Żurrieq, to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was certified to be suffering grievous injuries.

Half an hour later, the police were called to Triq Gort to assist a man who reported a similar attack.

The second victim, also a Somali man, is 23-years-old and lives in Marsascala. He too was certified to be suffering grievous injuries.

The aggressors also fled the scene.

The police are investigating.
