Two men were handed suspended sentences today after admitting to assaulting and violently resisting a police sergeant and a constable, slightly injuring them.

The incident happened on Sunday after feast celebrations had finished in Gudja.

The court heard how one of the accused, Clinton Borg, 27 of Birzebbuga was involved in a fight with other people. As the police intervened, Borg injured the policemen.

The other accused, Roderick Azzopardi, 32 of Gudja, who was not involved in the fight, tried to pull his friend from the fight and pushed the sergeant.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli sentenced the two men to one year in jail suspended for a year.
