Two loggerhead turtles rehabilitated at San Lucjan were today released into the wild at Gnejna Bay.

The turtles, Katusu and Edel, were released by seven-year-old Luca Mangion, who was surrounded by crowd of some 90 children.

Katusu, who was rescued in July, had ingested metal objects and his stomach had to be cleared. A lesion on his flipper also had to be treated.

Edel was found entangled in nets which had restricted her muscle movements in September.

Since the turtle rehabilitation programme began in September 2001, San Lucjan received 170 injured turtles. A total 108 of them were released alive.
