Two powerful aftershocks, including a magnitude 6.8, hit northern Chile, a day after a massive quake struck the area, the US Geological Survey said. It said the 6.8-magnitude aftershock, only 21.7 miles (35 km) deep, was centred 58 miles (93 km) northeast of Antofagasta in mineral-rich northern Chile.
Two minutes earlier, another aftershock, initially reported at magnitude 6.5 but later revised to 6.2, hit the same area, where Wednesday's 7.7-magnitude temblor killed two people and injured more than 100.
