Two Italian men have been remanded in custody after being accused in court of committing a hold-up in Rabat and injuring the shop-owner on Friday.

The hold-up took place at about 4pm at a shoe shop in College Street.

The accused are Domiano Torrisi, 37 and Alessandro Gandolfo, 35, both of Catania. Mr Torrisi was also charged with driving without a licence while Mr Gondolfo was accused of possession of Cannabis. 

Both pleaded not guilty.
 
The police had reported that two hooded men armed with a knife entered the shop and made off with some €2,000 

One of the accused is unemployed while Mr Torrisi owns three shops in Malta.
