The Ramblers’ Association is organising a walk tomorrow along country lanes in the south of the island and on Wednesday along Wied Għomor.

Both walks are along valleys and countryside tracks inland, providing the nearness to nature that ramblers long for and enjoy while avoiding as much as possible exposed coastal areas, so as to offer some protection from the biting winds and cold elements. Some cultural content will also be thrown in for spice.

At this time of year, Malta’s valleys are filled with native flora in full flush before blooming as spring approaches. They are small but charming in their diversity of micro habitats as deep gorges open up to wider expanses of flat valley beds – about enough to relieve ramblers from the hubbub of development.

Tomorrow’s will be a hard walk with some rough terrain and inclines along lanes and coast between Marsascala and St Peter’s Pool. The meeting point is Marsascala parish church at 9am.

Wednesday’s will be an easy to moderate walk through Wied Għomor, taking ramblers along the towns of San Ġwann, Swieqi and St Julian’s. The meeting point is San Ġwann parish church at 2pm.

Everybody is invited to join in the walks but it is important that beginners choose an easy walk to start with and then decide on whether to join the harder walks. Participants are free to walk or stop at their discretion and are responsible for their safety.
