Two Sicilian fishermen who pleaded guilty to illegally fishing in Maltese waters on Monday morning were fined €4,658.75 (Lm2,000) each.

Magistrate Anthony Vella heard brothers Mariano and Carlo Strano of Catania plead guilty to the charges of illegally fishing in Maltese waters. Their catch of 21 swordfish, having a value of €2,300 (Lm1,000), was confiscated. An AFM patrol boat found their Italian boat Delfino in Malta's 25-mile fisheries conservation zone 20 miles North of Gozo early on Monday morning.

Police Inspector Alfred Mallia prosecuted.
