The drivers of a van and a car were hospitalised this afternoon after a head-on crash at Triq il-Buqana, Rabat.

The collision involved a Ford Transit van, driven by a 60-year-old man from Zurrieq, and a Peugeot 405, driven by a 33-year-old man from Qormi. The Qormi man's medical condition is serious, the police said.

The road, which leads from Rabat to Mgarr, was closed to traffic for some time.

Meanwhile in another incident nearby, a car broke free from a truck which was towing it and crashed into a stationary police motorcycle, toppling it. No one was injured.
