Two people have died and three others - including two police officers - have been injured in a shooting in North Carolina.

The two officers and another person received treatment for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to Gaston County emergency services.

Gaston County police chief Bill Melton said police had been called to a community about 22 miles west of Charlotte at 9.18pm in regard to a shooting.

Gaston County commissioners' chairman Tracy Philbeck tweeted about the shooting on Saturday night, saying: "Please keep our officers in your prayers."
