Two Libyan men were today condemned to a suspended jail term after having been convicted of damaging four cars while drunk in Paceville  in the early hours of yesterday.

Amer Khald Abdul Ghader, 25 and Wesam Mohammed Giuma Naas, 23 were accused of causing some €600 worth of damage to the cars.

Prosecutor Inspector Trevor Micallef said the two were arrested after having been identified by one of the owners of the damaged cars. He called for a one year suspended sentence. However defence counsel Veronique Dalli disagreed, saying that had the accused been Maltese, they would have been put on probation. Furthermore if they were handed a one year jail term, that would mean automatic deportation and that could not be achieved easily because the two were from Tripoli.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella condemned them to an eight-month jail term suspended for two years.
