Two men were yesterday remanded in custody after being charged with the illegal possession of a firearm.

Mariano Pirrone, 30, from Naxxar, and Alexander Anthony Gialanze Whiteford, 25, from Ħamrun, pleaded not guilty to the illegal possession of the Bruni pistol and ammunition on Thursday afternoon. They were also charged with relapsing. Their request for bail was turned down by the presiding magistrate, Doreen Clarke.

Police inspector Daniel Zammit prosecuted. Lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri, Veronique Dalli and Jose Herrera appeared for the defence.
