The Ornis Committee has decided there are grounds to apply a derogation for the trapping for Golden Plover and Song Thrush in autumn.

Over the past two years, live-capturing of both birds has been permitted for about three months from October.

The government will later announce this year’s dates.

The European Commission launched infringement proceedings against Malta when it reopened the trapping season last year. Trapping of finches was allowed then but is not included this year.
