Two “artistic” photographs of a Gozitan model, presented by a Gozitan artist, were not allowed to take part in the Gozo Arts Festival because they were deemed to be explicitly pornographic.

Answering a parliamentary question by Labour MP Owen Bonnici, both Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said the decision had been taken by the head of the Culture Section at the Ministry for Gozo together with the curator of the Gozo International Contemporary Arts Festival collective exhibition.

Dr Bonnici asked for confirmation that in another episode, and for the same reasons, the police had asked the owner of a youth establishment in Gozo to remove a number of photographs shown there of a Gozitan model.
