Jomic Calleja, 25, of Lija and Andrew Forace, 23, of Birkirkara today pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to traffic 17 kilogrammes of cannabis resin which they allegedly imported through the post over the past few months.

Mr Calleja alone was also charged with importing and trafficking in cannabis plant. Both men were remanded in police custody.

The arraignments were made after policemen tailed Mr Calleja and investigated his movements.

The court was told that investigations showed that the cannabis was sent in parcels from the UK to various addresses.

Over the past three months about 10 kilogrammes of cannabis resin and seven kilos of the plant had made it into Malta.

Investigations are continuing.

Police Inspector Victor Aquilina prosecuted.

Lawyer Joseph Giglio represented Mr Forace. Gianella Caruana Curran represented Jomic Calleja.
