TVM retained its leadership in television ratings, according to a Broadcasting Authority audience survey for April-June, released this morning.

In its survey report, the BA said that there was a decrease in the number of radio listeners of 0.989% over the previous period of January-March 2012 and a decrease of 6.978% over the same period last year. Those who expressly stated that they did not listen to radio [52.308%] exceeded
radio listeners [43.626%] by 8.681%. The percentage for those who did not listen to radio was the highest ever recorded level since October-December.

Bay Radio maintained the highest percentage of radio listeners [22.12%], increased its share by 5.04% over the previous quarter of January-March 2012 [17.08%], and has increased its share by 1.42% over the same period last year [2011: 20.70%]. ONE Radio maintained its second ranking [14.69%] having a slight decrease over the previous assessment quarter [17.08%: -0.91%] and a slight increase over the same period last year [14.16%: +0.53%]. Calypso Radio ranked third [9.76%] having a slight increase over the previous quarter [9.64%: +0.13%] and a slight decrease over the same period last year [10.74%: -0.98%]. Radio 101 ranked fourth and registered its highest audience reach ever registered since January-March 2008.

The number of television viewers has remained constant over the previous
two quarters from October-December 2011 and was 1.153% lower than that registered for the same period the previous year. The largest movement registered over the previous period was that in thosereplied that they did watch television but they did not follow any particular station: there was a
decrease of 1.374% over the previous assessment period.

TVM retained its prime position throughout, increasing the percentage number of viewers over the same broadcasting period of 2011 by 0.54%
but decreasing the percentage number of viewers by 1.75% over the previous assessment period of January-March 2012. The same applied to ONE [14.61%] increasing its percentage number of viewers by 0.75% over the same period last year but losing 1.87% over the previous assessment
period.

The largest decrease in the number of viewers over the previous assessment period was registered by Net TV [-4.14%] while the largest increase was registered by TVM2 [+3.48%] .

The BA said that an analysis of the reach of each TV station by quarter showed that TVM has had high seasonal fluctuations losing up to 10% of its viewers to other stations during the summer months. Of the foreign broadcasting stations received locally, Rai 1, Italia 1, and Canale 5 carried
away most of the audiences of those viewing foreign stations.
