The Homeworks magazine, out tomorrow, is brimming with ideas to make havens of bathrooms and bedrooms.

In both rooms, styling retained a toned-down, almost oriental simplicity and purity of forms. The big trend in bedrooms has become increased, yet unobtrusive, storage. Clever headboard storage is also a new idea.

Making bathrooms bigger, more inclusive spaces is also a growing trend. There are more matt in the tiles but more gloss in the furniture. Bathroom colours are neutral but with pops of brights for the bold, with black making a comeback.

More use is made of natural materials, as well as copycat naturals that are the next best thing. There is faux fur in the bedroom and fake marble in the bathroom but it does not have a second-best image, rather, faking it is seen as sensible, luxurious and stylish.

The magazine recommends looking into the top ranges first before deciding on purchases. Their designs are not only trend-setting but are often aimed at making life easier, such as an anti-slip enamel or an easy-clean finish on baths.

Homeworks will be distributed free with The Sunday Times tomorrow.
