Turkish national Ismail Tirso, 49, was today jailed for 25 years and fined €100,000 after he was found guilty by a jury of having imported 11.5kg of heroin hidden in his suitcase in October 2007.

He was found guilty of conspiring to traffic drugs, importing drugs and being in possession of drugs.

The haul was the largest ever in Malta and worth well above €1 million.
