A military offensive has been launched against poachers in a remote forest in the Central African nation of Cameroon.

The soldiers went in after a high-level meeting between the country's minister of defence and the minister in charge of wildlife, according to The World Wildlife Fund.

WWF says that over 100 soldiers had entered the Bouba N'Djida National Park to secure the area from poachers

The offensive was taken in response to the mass slaughter by poachers of as many as 300 of the 400 elephants believed to be living in the remote park over the past two months.
