Joseph Zammit, 52, of Floriana was tonight jailed for 31 years after jurors found him 7-2 guilty of being an accomplice in the murder of BOV messenger Alphonse Ferriggi in September 2000.

He was also found guilty of being an accomplice in theft, holding the victim against his will, carrying a firearm illegally and damaging a bank vehicle.

Ferriggi was shot dead in a botched robbery as he was delivering mail early in the morning of September 18,2000.

The trial was presided by Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono.
