A tremor of between 3.8 and 4.2 struck a region close to Malta early this morning, but there were no reports that people felt it here.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre recorded the tremor at 4.2. It said the tremor struck at 6.13am 42KM South east of Valletta and 33KM south east of Marsaxlokk.

It was at a depth of 10km.

The Malta University seismological centre recorded the tremor at a magnitude of magnitude 3.8.

A number of smaller tremors were also reported.
