Trees and saplings planted in a small public garden called Ġardina tal-Paċi in Mosta were stolen overnight, after a commemorative plaque was shattered a few days ago.

The garden – set in a former dump site – was inaugurated on September 14 of last year, and the saplings were planted by a group of young volunteers.

The dumping site was converted into a garden through the local council’s funds granted by the Environment Ministry. In collaboration with the Qawra Leap Centre, the council planted 30 olive trees in a bid to pass on a message of peace within the community.

The acts of vandalism contrasted harshly with this message and was condemned by the Social Solidarity Ministry, the Qawra Leap Centre and the Mosta local council.
