The trees situation in Malta has improved but with a little bit of common sense it would get much better.
Often new pavements are built with a silly shallow flower box in which they are supposed to plant some shrubs. All they have is about six inches of soil. The government can get the workers to dig a bigger hole and plant trees instead of those shrubs or, at least, have one or two trees within such flower boxes. Streets with trees look much nicer and we'll be also enriching our environment.
Even old pavements could be dug at intervals and a tree planted in them - and other areas around Malta and Gozo could also be enhanced with trees.
