Travellers who have booked flights with Clickair are unaffected by last week's merger that saw the low-cost carrier join Vueling.

The merger of the two Spanish airlines on July 9 established a single company, Vueling. Clickair was the low-cost subsidiary of Iberia, which will now have a 45 per cent stake in the new company.

"It does not affect passengers at all," Vueling spokesman Alfons Claver told The Times Business. "Their flights will be operated by Vueling rather than Clickair. Their Clickair tickets become Vueling's."

A Vueling statement explained that the two airlines will integrate their operations to build a "young, innovative and modern" company, committed to punctuality and high standards.

Thanks to the merger, the company will own 35 aircraft and fly to over 45 destinations in Spain, continental Europe, Britain and North Africa. Vueling claimed the merger places it among the top five companies of its kind in Europe.

Under its new guise, Vueling will fly to Malta three times a week to Barcelona and Madrid (twice a week to Barcelona from September 17) and twice a week to Valencia.

Mr Claver said it was too early to talk about the airline's plans for winter or next summer's operations on the Malta route.

Vueling liveries will be painted as aircraft stop to make scheduled checks between mid-August and mid-November, he explained, adding that all other brand elements, including aircraft interiors, are totally Vueling's.

Clickair had a cross-selling agreement with Germanwings, which also operated a Malta service.

"Cross-selling with Germanwings will also be an option for the new Vueling," Mr Claver said. "We are implementing the IT now but it will not be too long before the cross-selling is resumed."
