Air Malta have recently introduced a travel insurance facility when effecting an online booking for flights and holidays. This is, one would consider, an immensely facilitating option to prospective clients.

However, my concern lies with the fact that this travel insurance is not an option but rather is automatically included when the billing process is completed with the client then being compelled to opt out of this payment structure if this is not required.

I have submitted a complaint to Air Malta along with the Consumer and Competition Division (without any addressing as yet of my concern).

For it is my submission that travel insurance is an optional extra to be included only at the behest of the client and that this statutory right is being severely compromised by Air Malta's unacceptable mandatory inclusion of this extra service, which is then only cancelled by the client's unnecessarily being constrained to opt out of this unprompted inclusion of such when presented with the total bill for purchasing a travel service online.
