The Police are investigating allegations of corruption at Transport Malta involving an official who assisted a second-hand car dealer to allegedly under-declare the value of a luxury vehicle.

The Transport Malta official was suspended after a file with information on the vehicle went missing.

Upon importation the registration value of the high-end SUV, an Audi Q5, was listed in the range of €22,000 – almost half the normal value for vehicles of this type. The suspected case of under declaration led to a much lower registration tax being paid.
