Transport Malta has denied that the records of a car which blocked the St Luke's Hospital helipad in August have been deleted.

The number of the car and the identity of whoever was responsible have never been disclosed.

Reacting to a newspaper report, Transport Malta said that investigations it had conducted showed that the vehicle in question was still registered and licensed in its database.

"Transport Malta had asked both Mater Dei Hospital and Malta Enterprise to confirm the registration number of the vehicle involved in the incident to be able to confirm with its internal database. Based on the information provided, the vehicle is still registered in the system, has a valid licence and a valid VRT certificate.

"Transport Malta also asked the Government’s central IT agency (MITA) which is responsible to maintain Transport Malta’s database, to investigate whether there were any changes to the details in this particular vehicle record. MITA confirmed there were no such changes. Consequently, there were no deletions or tampering as is being alleged."

Transport Malta said that online access to personalised details using the online road licence renewal system is strictly limited to persons having the necessary information about the vehicle and the registered owner from the registration certificate (log book) and not just the registration number.
