As a temporary resident of Malta, I visited Dwejra Azure Window with a friend on October 22. This person from Germany was very keen to experience this unique site and the breathtaking landscape around Dwejra. But what a disappointment! Due to the production of a TV movie the place was stuffed with trucks and heavy machinery.

We were driven away from the beautiful site by security personnel of the TV series production company.

With our own eyes we could see how drivers of this company used tractors without any respect for the nature of this place. At the same time local wardens were supervising the scenery and we wondered how all this misuse of sensitive nature could be taking place under the guidance of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

My questions are very simple: Is Malta so poor as to waste its places of unique beauty and to sell them at a loss to TV companies like Fire and Blood Productions? What is more precious, the short-term profit for Malta made by low-grade TV production or the preservation of the unique ecosystem at Dwejra that attracts people from the whole world?
