A 34-year-old traffic policeman was seriously but not critically injured in Hamrun yesterday when he lost control of his motorcycle.

The accident happened in Il-Kappillan Mifsud Street, at about 8.30 a.m.

The police said the accident occurred when the policeman lost control of his machine and, upon falling, slid along the ground and crashed against a parked truck.

The motorcycle hit an Opel Corsa being driven by a 36-year-old woman from Sta Venera from P.P. Muscat Square into Il-Kappillan Street. She was not injured.

An ambulance took the injured policeman to hospital where he was found to be suffering from facial fractures. The police said he was not in any danger.

The motorcycle was extensively damaged.

The police are investigating.
