Air Malta last month transported 4,064 passengers to and from Israel, 65.94 per cent more than in the same month the previous year.

Between January and December, 59,436 passengers were transported between Malta and Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv. This was 251.15 per cent more than the 16,926 transported in 2010.

When presenting the figures for January to November, Tourism Minister Mario de Marco had said that clashes between Israel and Turkey enticed more Israelis to travel to Malta instead of Turkey. 776 Israelis came to Malta in 2006.
