Playmobil, the toy maker, has won a Foundation for Human Resource Development Award for the excellent training and development of its staff.

The We Learn initiative gives Playmobil employees learning opportunities in a variety of subjects, taught from very basic levels in newly-setup classrooms.

Timetables are also tailored to the individual employee, making learning as convenient as possible. Lessons are usually scheduled for before or after work on site at the Playmobil premises. Employees in the first Industrial Grades were specifically targeted at the beginning of the scheme. More than 250 employees applied for one or more courses. Some 400 applications were received in total.

Courses are offered in English, digital literacy and ECDL and started in October.

Maltese and math lessons started this month.

The initiative's second phase will see technical and leadership courses being offered early next year.
