A Vermont town has failed in its bid to bring home the bacon for its third annual Baconfest - Kevin Bacon, that is.

The Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce launched a social media blitz last month inviting the Hollywood star to Saturday's event.

Residents in Brattleboro have been photographed with a life-size cardboard cut-out of him as part of the campaign.

But he tweeted his regrets on Monday, saying in a video that he will not be able to make it to Baconfest because he is filming in Vancouver.

He said he appreciated the "hilarious effort" that went into trying to get him there.
