A tourist has been ordered to pay damages of €10,200 after grounding a jet ski, damaging it beyond economic repair.

The case was instituted by Richard Cassar, owner of Waterworld Watersports Centre following an incident on August 2, 2011 when tourist Henry Seddon rented a jet ski which crashed onto rooks at Ghallis Boint, Qawra.

Mr Cassar testified that the tourist first said he was pushed onto the rocks by a wave. Then he complained of a steering problem, before finally admitting that he had been fooling around and tried getting close to shore to attract attention.

He had promised to pay for the damage, but never did so.

He also did not reply to the writ of summons despite being duly notified.

The court ordered Mr Seddon to pay €7,200 for the damage caused to the jet ski and €3,000 for loss of earnings.
