Over three-quarters of the rooms in hotels and guesthouses were taken up in September this year, an improvement over last year’s occupancy rate, even though there were 350 more rooms available.

The National Statistics Office reported on Wednesday that tourist establishments recorded 75.6% occupancy, compared to 72.4% in September 2016, with the number of bedrooms standing at 18,677 this year. However, when analysed by region, those in Malta did better than those in Gozo, recording occupancies of 76.1% compared to 66.4%.

during September 2017 advanced by 12.5% and 7.6% respectively when compared to the corresponding month in 2016.

The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments went down to 5.4 nights in September 2017 from the average of 5.6 nights registered during the same month of 2016.

Relatively speaking, Gozo fared better than Malta, seeing increases of 16.1 per cent while Malta saw an increase of 12.3% and Comino of 11.8 per cent.
