A tourist's complaint to the German mass circulation newspaper Bild about the poor state of a hotel room and bathroom in Malta turned out to have been outdated, with the Malta Tourism Authority having already taken action leading the hotel to replace its facilities.

The German newspaper carried a picture of a room and bathroom in a three-star hotel in Sliema, showing them to be in a shoddy state.

Although the hotel was not mentioned by name, two of the images led the MTA's Enforcement Department to identify it.

Insepctors went around all the hotel's 106 rooms and it was then established that the pictures were probably taken last year, before the hotel underwent an extensive five-month refurbishment.

The inspectors found all the bathrooms in the hotel to be newly installed.

The refurbishment had been carried out following a number of warnings issued by the MTA's Enforcement department itself. The Malta Tourism Authority said it will be contacting Bild to clarify the situation.
