An Italian woman, 67, was admitted to hospital yesterday after a truck rammed into the taxi in which she was a passenger.

The accident happened at around 1.30 p.m. on the access road from December 13 Road in Marsa to the overhead pass that leads to the Santa Venera tunnels.

The truck collided with the taxi, which was forced into the side wall along the ramp.

The woman, who is on holiday, was helped out of the taxi by rescuers from the Civil Protection Department and taken to hospital.

The drivers, a 61-year-old man from Birżebbuġa who was driving the taxi, and a 52-year-old man from Pembroke who was driving the truck, were uninjured.
