Tourist arrivals in October reached 180,620, an increase of 3.7 per cent when compared to the corresponding month last year.

The National Statistics Office said that when excluding the passengers who stayed overnight on board their berthed cruise ship, this increase amounted to 2.7 per cent.
 
A total of 154,047 inbound visits were carried out for holiday purposes, while a further13,798 were undertaken for business purposes.

Inbound tourists from EU Member States went up by 6.1 per cent to 150,722. The largest proportion of inbound tourists were aged between 45 and 64, followed by those within the 25-44 age bracket.

Total nights spent went up by 5.4 per cent when compared to October 2013, reaching 1,347,352 nights. The largest share of guest nights (67.0 per cent) was spent in collective accommodation establishments.

Total tourist expenditure was estimated at €159.9 million, an increase of 2.5 per cent over the corresponding month last year.

January-October 2014
Inbound tourism from January to October amounted to 1,544,479, an increase of 8.4 per cent over the same period in 2013. Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 5.1 per cent, reaching 12.2 million nights.

During the period under review, total tourism expenditure was estimated at €1.4 billion, 6.3 per cent higher than that recorded for the same period in 2013.

Total per capita expenditure stood at €919, a decrease of 0.9 per cent when compared to last year’s levels
