Tourism Police will be introduced as a pilot project in St Julian’s and Sliema next month, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela told Censu Galea (PN) in reply to a parliamentary question.

He said the project would be carried out in collaboration with the Tourism Ministry and would be gradually extended to other areas according to need.

The aim was to have police officers who were able to communicate with tourists deployed to tourist zones. Such officers had to be trained on tourism and consumer rights, the minister said.
