Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar is organising a Holy Week tour of Vittoriosa today for a deeper understanding of Good Friday and Easter traditions.

Good Friday ceremonies are among the most followed and devotional religious festivities in Malta. Vittoriosa, with its millennial history, is one of the centres where such traditions still hold strong.

In the past, towns celebrated more than one procession, but these were prohibited in the 19th century, with only the procession organised by the parish church being allowed.

Yet some traditions from the other processions are still evident in various parts of Malta. One of the unique features of this procession is that the statues carried shoulder-high during the Good Friday procession are robed in rich clothing.

The locality’s love and devotion towards Holy Week is also evident from the various exhibitions and displays held across the city.

The group will meet near Couvre Porte in Vittoriosa. The tour will be held from 7 to 9pm. Booking from https://ticketengine.faa. org.mt/ . For more information e-mail contact@faa.org.mt or call 2010 6428.
